The drug you are thinking of is pergolide. The drug is not approved for use in equine species. Rather, it is used in an off-label manner to treat Cushing's Syndrome (aka pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction, PPID). Thus, comments on pergolide's effects are based on years of use of the drug in the "real" world. The FDA had wanted to remove it from the market, but there was too many protest and for now the drug remains available.

What is the name of the medication that was used for Parkinsons and
has since been removed and possibly re-instated for treatment of this
disease?

Actually they have reallowed this med for animal use. :-) Doesn't mean it will stay that way but so far so good.

Check our Dr. Eleanor Kellon's research into Cushings and IR. She is also on the EquineCushings list.
