Refilling hot generators causes fires with both gasoline and propane fired
units.

If you use extension cords for critical loads with a portable remember to
check them out before hand.

Storing motor fuels in barns only adds to the chance of fire, a fire you
can't fight because of the ice on the ground and the pond.

The added load of ice (or snow) on roofs can cause structural
failure/collapse. The horses can usually take the cold, the roof can't.
In some cases trying to clear snow off the roof has led to collapse with
injuries.

Thanks for sharing precautionary efforts regarding generator use, Irv.
We have a 220 outlet in an outbuilding that is so marked and covered
up, so the under educated will not plug a normal appliance into it
Gasoline is not stored in the barn...another good idea.
Additiionally, the fence charger is shut off when animals are in
stalls. I know of someone who lost two horses last year due to a
malfunction of a charger, that was installed in a covered box outside
the barn.

Always so much to learn from this site.
