Thanks Mellissa. I'm mostly looking for something to neutralize the
biohazards carried in blood- AIDS, hepatitis, etc Do you know if Biz
or
Zout would be effective at killing virii? The parents can worry about
the stains later! :-)

Simply soaking bloodstained clothes in COLD water will lift the stains on
most fabrics.
We usually soak the clothing for a while in the washer letting the washer
aggitate the soaking clothes periodically. You can tell when the bloodstains
are being lifted by the color of the dirty water. Then run them through a
full cycle of cold water after the soak without any detergents and then run
them through a second COLD WATER wash cycle the usual way with whatever
detergent one typically uses in laundering their clothes with. Some laundry
detergents now have antibacterials in them. But as Irv mentioned, it is the
temperature that kills with most pathogens with most not surviving for long
periods of time once outside the body temperature. Adding to this though,
depending on what the blood might be on, say a dirty rusty metal object or in
the soil there are always concerns for tetanus or staph infections and other
bactiria.

There are several organisms and viruses that can live in the soil
(parvovirus just to name another) and that is one that is a concern to pets
especially dogs and can live in the soil in a single location for a year.
Vetrinarians will recommend not to get a puppy if the virus is present from a
previous parvo infected dog deficating in the area where you will have your
new pup too. It is one virus that can be tracked into another area also on
ones shoes.

Many livestock operations are beginning to require that their visitors or
employees wear disposable shoe and even outer garment coverings and also are
not allowing thier guests to wander hap-hazardly onto and through their
operations to help prevent diseases and pathogens from being brought in from
another facility. This line of thought is not only in livestock operations ,
but also horticultural operations where plant diseases, air pollution and
pathogens become their concerns. What does that have to do with MSAR or SAR?
Simple awareness of what is in the community.

Perhaps another another is to simply look up the disease, bacteria, toxoid
or viral concern and research from that aspect as well. It might not tell
you how to clean it up, but may offer a way to prevent it from occuring to
help eliminate some worry.

Just another veiw from our perspective and we might not be experts, but
from that vantage, if you don't know foresure what it is, maybe it is best
not to mess with it and call for a little back up advise as none of us knows
it all.

Just washing your clothes in hot soapy water will kill these virulli. Yo=
u do not need any chemicals to kill them. If you are worried immediatly =
after exposure, you could just take the soiled clothes off and put them =
in a bag until you get home to wash them. No special chemicals or soaps =
needed, just hot water and regular laundry soap.
