The only suggestion is that any helmet be designed
for the use you are using it for and meet the appropriate standard.
I have used several different types of riding helmets and have found the
Troxel EQ to be most effective.

On the other hand construction helmets, rock climbing helmets, fire helmets,
and bike helmets are not designed for horseback riding. Another point of
discussion has come up in the fire service but probably applies to all--
many people use their helmets to hold stuff. Firepersons often carry
flashlights, door chocks, sprinkler wedges, and other stuff. The fire helmet
is designed to deflect and absorb falling objects which it cannot do if
there is stuff stuck on it. A riding helmet is designed primarily to absorb
the impact of the head against the inside of the helmet as the helmet hits
the ground. Having stuff on the outside might change the point of impact and
how it is absorbed.
