Una, I agree with you 100%

I have spoke with Bob several times about the topic. He said it was in the works, but I have a feeling it's not even on the back burner yet. I will see Bob at the next VASARCo meeting and will speak with (again) him conducting a mounted detection experiment. I feel that such a test should be conducted on the same track of land (in Virginia) that the ground search experiment was conducted so the science could contain comparable subject fields and findings for the database. When the test was conducted in this area I had requested if we could send mounted teams to do a second experiment, but my request was denied.

You know what would be really cool, for MSAR folks in Virginia
and surrounds? Ask Bob Koester and/or Jack Frost to organize
(or help you organize) a detection experiment for MSAR. That
would be a guaranteed very interesting and educational activity
for participating riders, and would also further education for
the organizers re logistics and operations issues pertinent to
MSAR resources.

The detection experiment is so easy for the "searcher" to do
that even a complete novice at MSAR can do it. And doing it
plus getting a personal debrief and later a copy of the results
and analysis, will help even a complete novice learn quite a
lot of subtle details about the hasty search task. Especially
if, after doing the experiment as a "searcher", the rider does
it again as a data recorder for one or more other searchers.
