Where abouts is Johnson City? I am located by Shelbyville and would love to
be active in an MSAR as well as receive the training.

Johnson City is in the very eastern corner of TN. Quite a drive from Middle
TN.

The press release is the result of the every 5 year study of CPR results
across the country by the Red Cross, the AHA, and the cardiologists. There
has been no change to the teaching of CPR received as yet from the Red
Cross. This study contradicts past studies which showed that a slow even
compression was more effective because it allowed the heart chambers to
refill better. Also, studies that compression only or reduced mouth to mouth
were still effective have been called into question because it is oxygenated
blood that has to be moved to the brain and critical organs to preserve
resuscitation possibilities. The heart often arrests (as opposed to
fibrillation) due to lack of oxygen in the blood and sometimes a nerve or
blood vessel blockage.

The interruption of CPR to use an AED is considered because the gap is
short, the presence of an AED means that a heart that is functioning
(fibrillation) but not correctly might be restored to proper function, and
the rescuers with the AED should know CPR and possibly have other support,
such as oxygen.
