Hi TER,

Here in Maryland the Maryland Search Teams Task Force hold a 3 day annual SAREX on the first weekend of November. Friday evening and all day Saturday several different classes are offered to SAR personnel. The last day is a full scale mock search of all teams that attend. This is a low cost event for all SAR teams within the State and is attended by SAR teams/persons from neighboring States.

Last year we sent a couple of teams to the Tri-State SAR weekend conducted in Update New York, which has been a long standing SAR event. Next weekend there is a similar SAREX weekend being conducted in the State of Delaware. It should be noted that this is a first ever SAR event conducted in DE, so the concept of private/low cost training is catching on.

Unlike teams west of the Blue Ridge, Sheriff's posses are very rare in this region. There are some Park Service Volunteer Teams that work within some parks, but for the most part they do not perform MSAR duties.

These weekend training are open to everyone. They are put on by private
groups and are funded by admission cost
of participants. These training's are open to all and they have become very
popular. Participants are limited, many
times available slots usually filling months ahead of time.

My question is - Do other states hold private funded training's?
If not, why?

TER
