Awesome to see conversations again.

I was thinking of y’all a few years ago, when we had some major developments here.  That nice big 80 acre farm where we rented land finally went up for sale after my 95 year old  farming mentor died.  His wife just didn’t want to mess with it anymore.  Sadly, she put the price so high that it was well out of reach for us (and all the rest of the area farmers).  Some suburbanite bought it for his 3 kids to put horses on it, right as Covid was really getting started.  He told my mentor’s wife that “maybe he’d start playing around with making hay too.”  Yea.  I have often wondered how that worked out for them.  My mentor’s wife is now living comfortably in Sarasota FL.  Went as far as she could without leaving the continent to get away from the farm she’d lived and worked on for 40 years.

But the silver lining in all this was that I turned my attention from that place, back to our own little 6 acre place with all its issues.  Been working really hard to get this place more efficient, more productive, and <dare I say it> more profitable!   Been a lot of work but it’s been worth it (most days).  I think Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz was right: "If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with."

I miss the days when this list was active too!  I learned so much from all of you and felt like I had colleagues all over the place.

Things are ok here in the Lower Hudson Valley.  We desperately need rain. We're heading into 2 weeks of temps right around 90.  ugh.

I would definitely participate if folks started talking here again.

Best to all of y'all,

I miss the active list as well.  We’re still here, still doing our little thing in our little corner of the world.  Nice to see some of those familiar names on the list.  Hope you all are well. I never did make the shift over to social media.  I’ll happily still talk to anyone on the list as long as I don’t have to log into Facebook to do it.  And William, welcome to the Left Coast!

The list hasn't been active for some time; but occasionally a bit of discussion still pops up in it.

I miss the active list.
