Hi,

At what age do you transplant the beets in the paper pots? Assuming that
multiple beets will germinate from each seed in a cell, do you use wider
spacing (say the 6" chains) or are you planting for greens? If you are
planting for roots, does the paper pot dissolve enough so that each beet
clump pushes apart so no further thinning is needed?

We have found the paper pot system wonderful for lettuce. Even if soil
conditions do not allow effective use of the transplanter itself, it is
simple to make a furrow with a hoe, unravel the chain, and drop it in. We
transplant a flat of lettuce (264 cells) this way in less than 1/2 hour -
way better than by hand.

You might try removing the metal thingy with the black felt on it to do beet
seed with the Jang. In my experience, the rough, corky beet seed chews up
the felt and it does not flow well out of the seeder with this part of the
seeder in place. I had simlar headaches with the Earthway with
beets: it transplants clumps and then nothing and then clumps. I've
switched to transplanting all my beets with a paper chain pot transplanter (
