Thanks for all the comments so far.
We have heavier soil, but used water wheels are plentiful in this area
(cinci- southern ohio/northern KY) due to tobacco production and I have
a creeping capable tractor, so it might be worth a try out.
Now I just have to get the android phone, mp3 player and a twitter account!
