I was referring to applying just N in mid season. Any soluble type I can get, like sodium or calcium nitrate, urea or ammonia nitrate. Anything I can simply throw into the bushes  add sprinklers and dissolve it into the roots and get a response in a day or two... Bob.

When you say nitrate, do you mean you're using a fertilizer with a high proportion of nitrogen in he NPK balance?
