All,
I really like this area as a whole and I really dislike anyone
putting down one area vs. another. They all have their traits and
some people gravitate towards one place over another and etc.
One article I found a while back I thought was kinda interesting.
http://charlotte.creativeloafing.com/gyrobase/grudge_match_raleigh_smacks_charlotte/Content?oid=595051
Specifically, this quote:
"While Charlotte's leaders assumed we had the business thing down and
devoted their time to becoming a tourist destination and a hot night
spot (things many believed necessary to attract young, hip
overachievers), Raleigh was concentrating on the one thing guaranteed
to attract them and keep them: business recruitment and jobs. It's a
formula that is clearly working."
So while Raleigh may not be like Austin, TX or Charleston, I think
that's one that I like about it is that it's not trying to be
something that it ain't. It just is, be it Five Points, Glenwood
South, Hillsborough St & NCSU, Crabtree Valley, Fairgrounds, Farmer's
Market, Umstead Forest and the several other Parks, including Pullen
Park (with a cool train ride), Oakwood & Mordecai, the largest natural
science museum in the southeast & Downtown & Moore Square, NC Museum
of Art and Walnut Creek. And although I'm not a Hockey fan, I know
some friends who love the Hurricanes and the NC State football games.
Personally, I like the smaller towns, like Apex (I'm biased because
I lived there for a while) and now live in Holly Springs (which I've
heard described as a commuter's rest stop between work). But am close
enough to drive to Raleigh and enjoy the bigger city stuff when I want
to.
I could go on about why I like Chapel Hill or Durham also, but I
hope you got my point.
Thanks,
-Rob
