We moved our business servers into data centers and switched our home
internet connection to Roadrunner Low Speed or whatever they call it. It
cut our price in half, and I have yet to notice a difference in speed.
Yesterday, I had full frame video conference with my dad in Ft. Myers
using Skype with only one noticeable burp that lasted only a split
second.

Happy New Year, and God bless all.

Jim

1) Have any of you tried out the "Roadrunner Lite" service from
Time Warner? They charge 24.95 for a 769kBps download speed. I'm
curious if they really do regulate the speed down this low and also what
the upload speed is (they don't say AFAIK). Is 768Kbps good enough for
streaming things like you tube etc?

Yes, they can regulate bandwidth. Whether or not that's fast enough for
you depends on you. It would be fine for YouTube, but unlikely to be
able to keep up with anything bigger than a small video. The effect it
would have on regular web sites depends on the size of the web pages on
the site.

Our software includes a bandwidth limiter to check out this type of
thing. Set the record bandwidth to close to 769K and then browse like
normal to get an idea of how that limitation would effect your web
experience. You can download the demo here:

(Windows only, sorry.)

2) Is it possible to get DSL service if I don't have a land
line?

Yes, but its typically more expensive than adding DSL to an existing
line.

What are the typical speeds and prices charged for DSL

DSL bandwidth rates change according to two factors: how far you are
from your local switch, and what level of service you pay for. You'll
have to take that up with your phone service provider.
