Yes, more specifically, you can look in the "Itunes Plus" store.  All the songs there do not have DRM.  Which of course means there is limited selection.

Susan,

You are partially correct.  iTunes *will* let you save an AAC encoded
file as an mp3,
but not if it's a DRM protected AAC file, which most of the songs in
the iTunes Music
Store are.  There are, however, many songs in the store that are
unprotected (they
have a + sign next to them) and iTunes will happily convert those to mp3 without
any problems at all.
