You're right, it makes no sense to have a 747, or any kind of plane for that
matter, sitting on the runway for more than a few seconds or so. How would
other planes be able to take off and land? Having it sit on the ramp, now,
that's a different matter...

Also, return on investment?? If you're rich enough to be able to afford such
extravagant indulgences as having a private 747 standing by for your kids in
college, are you really going to worry that much about ROI? For Middle
Eastern heads of state having a private jet is a status symbol, not a
rational investment. And besides, in the world of status symbols, what is a
measly, rickety, old leased 747SP anyways? A private 747-400 on the other
hand, like that of the Sultan of Abu Dhabi, now THAT's money!
