Good teats seem to be bred out of cows these days. I've had a lot of
experience with first fresheners in my life, and the answer was always
to give her plenty to eat, talk to her nicely, and be ready to move
yourself and the bucket quickly. A first timer will generally settle
down just fine in a few weeks if she isn't yelled at or otherwise
abused.

It's too late to got back to getting her used to human touch by
rubbing her udder when she's young, but that's the easy way. In my
experience, a gentle cow isn't that difficult. (Now a goat is a whole
different story.)
