Dear all,

I believe there's some inconsistency in version numbering of the TDS
protocol and corresponding MSSQL Server versions. The page
http://www.freetds.org/tds.html says TDS 8.0 is used by MSSQL Server 2000
and TDS 9.0 is spoken by MSSQL 2005, while in this post
https://lists.ibiblio.org/sympa/arc/freetds/2007q4/022621.html it is said
that 8.0 supports MSSQL 2005. So who's right?

On the other hand, the documentation from Microsoft applies slightly
different version numbering:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc448452.aspx - 1.3 Protocol
Overview (Synopsis)
7.0 - SQL Server 7.0
7.1 - SQL Server 2000
7.2 - SQL Server 2005
Moreover, this numbering corresponds to what is sent in the LOGIN7 message,
according to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc448566.aspx 2.2.6.3 LOGIN7
The following lists the version numbers used by clients up to SQL Server
2005.
7.0: 0x70 00 00 00 (SQL Server 7.0)
7.1: 0x71 00 00 00 (SQL Server 2000)
7.1 SP1: 0x71 00 00 01 (SQL Server 2000 SP1)
7.2: 0x72 09 00 02 (SQL Server2005)

I understand that the actual numbering was introduced before Microsoft
published the documentation. So maybe FreeTDS should update its TDS
numbering scheme?

Thank you for clearing that out.
Regards.
