I think your connection string incorrect. In you Perl code, use the
dataserver name 'MyServer70', not to the host name 'tesql.upsider.com'.


FreeTDS looks up the name in freetds.conf, where it finds the host,
port, and protocol version. If you give a host name, it won't find the
dataserver name, but will resolve the name and try to connect using the
compiled-in defaults (usually port 4000, TDS 5.0).
