Or coan you suggent any tools or utilities which can do that???

Hi all,

We are using freetds to connect to a MSQL database from a RedHat 8
machine.

We have also installed unixODBC with thread safetiness.

If we create several processes (through isql or tsql): freetds behaves
correctly.

However when using an external application that uses threads (either the
DataManager of unixODBC or Zope through egenix mxODBCZopeDA ), the
driver crashes and leads to a crash of the external application as well.

Could you please provide me information regarding :

- To what extend is freetds thread safe ? What are the
requirements (particular c compiler? MS SQL version ? other libraries
dependencies ?)

- How can we test thread safety of free tds? do you have a unit
test for this ?

- How can we get more information of what's going on when the
driver crashes (trace, debugging possible ?)

Thanks for your input, we are really clueless here,

-- Jean

Freddy,

I saw some discussion regarding bulk copy on the list recently, would
that
not be a possibility to use ?
( I am under the impression that the bulk copy you talk about is the
same as
the bulkcopy program from mssql. )

Many thanks
Piet

I saw it in the docs directory, should have checked first before posting
the
SQ.
Will give it a try.

I installed the latest freetds with -enable-threadsafe and without the
flag.

At installation, it says thread safety OK.

When installed, if you run ./tsql -C, it says:

Thrad safety : No !!! ????????

Can anybody give me a clue ?

(Redhat 8 used)

Bulk copy operation is supported by db-lib and ct-lib. It has not yet
been implemented in the ODBC driver. (It's also not in the ODBC spec;
it's a Microsoft extension.)

You mean BCP.EXE? Yes, that program uses the same parts of the TDS
protocol that FreeTDS implements with db-lib and ct-lit.

Please apply the attached patch.

The function called by "tsql -C" relied on a compile-time #define that
we apparently don't use anymore. It's misreporting the status of
--enable-threadsafe.

[Memo to file: remove -D_THREAD_SAFE from configure.in:426.]
