The vendors both keep documentation on the web. See the FAQ for URLs.
Hint: on the Sybase site, choose "middleware" and "Open Client/Server".
"OpenClient" is Sybase's Orwellian name for their library.

My take on the API debate: http://www.freetds.org/which_api.html. No you
didn't miss it; I haven't integrated into the documentation. One of these
days....
