Interesting discussion. Is there any reason left to exclude authentic Pauline
authorship for Laodiceans, 3 Corinthians, Prayer of Paul, and even the Paul
and
Seneca correspondence? Surely we can make them fit if we try!

How about the absence of these works from P46 and the Muratorian
Canon, unlike Colossians, Ephesians, et al.?

I think I really should object to my comments being taken out of context.
My comments were *only* meant to refer to the canonical Paulines, as I
suspect Robert Kraft knows. However, he does have a point. We probably
should apply the same 'tests' to all the writings supposedly from Paul,
whether currently in the canon or not. However, whatever the tests are I
suspect we would end up with the same general result:

a) Some forgeries correct identified as such
b) Some forgeries incorrectly identified as genuine
c) Some genuine letters incorrect identified as forgeries
d) Some genuine letters correct identified as genuine

By modifying the tests we can alter the number of items in categories b) and
c), and eliminate completely either b) *or* c), but we may not be able to
eliminate both b) and c) at the same time. However, I suspect that any
reasonable set of tests we could devise would identify the items named above
as being in category a), ie. not genuine, every time.

(To anybody who's even remotely interested, all current email SPAM filters
have similar problems: However you set them up, you get false positives
and/or false negatives, and can't get rid of both categories at the same
time.)
