Dear Jon,
I think you are mistaken. The James of Gal 1:19 is clearly not the Zebedee
and Paul's non-qualification of the 'James' in 2:9 suggests they are one and
the same. Again, the fact that Peter appears in between James and John in
2:9 is instructive, and quite different from the references you list above.
Furthermore, James Zebedee is most likely dead by this time (Acts 12:2).
Further, Acts suggests that James (the Lord's brother) rose to prominence
soon after the Zebedee's death (Acts 12:17). I have struggled to find any
commentators who think the James of Gal 2:9 is the Zebedee. What have I
missed?
