Hmmm. It seems to me that the distinction you are making is between
an outdated literalistic understanding of apocalyptic and a more
nuanced understanding of apocalyptic. Unless I have been misreading
Wright, doesn't he argue that Jewish apocalyptic does not envision a
literal end to space time; rather that it describes events within
history in terms of their significance for the destiny of Israel? I
think Wright would say that your second category IS apocalyptic
eschatology, whereas your first category is a simplistic, literalistic
misunderstanding of apocalyptic eschatology.

Now if we can get our categories sorted out, I, too, am very
interested in reading Paul in context of this sort of more nuanced
understanding of genuine apocalyptic eschatology. So I'll be
interested to see how your argument progresses.
