Has anyone seen the latest article from Joost Smiers, et al, where they
discuss, from an ECONOMICS point of view, a brave new world where copyright
has been abolished!

The first section is an interesting argument for why copyright isn't working
in artists' favour. Also a bit of a discussion around the pros and cons of
Creative Commons from the point of view of "fiscalisation" of artists' work/s
which may be of interest to the readers of this list. Also paying close
attention to the differences which exist between developed and developing
nations and the part Copyright plays in preserving this status quo. The
second section looks at redrawing the economic landscape to create a "level
playing field" (the harder of the two proposals). The book is 82 pages long,
so not too onerous to dip into this conversation which is on the agenda at
the conference International Forum on Free Culture & Knowledge -Barcelona,
Barcelona.

You can access it here:

cultural conglomerates too...
Better for artists, diversity and the economy . . .
