Dear all,

It was my pleasure to meet all of you and my thanks as well to Jack,
Rebecca, Charles, Ben and all the rest for an interesting night (as well as
the free beer).

As I mentioned, I think in especially HK and China, a one-minute film
festival can be a great way to publicize CC licenses.

I know Marcelo Masagão who started the original, Festival do Minuto (One
Minute Festival) in Brazil in 1991. The festival is now quite large there
(they have a huge sponsorship from Oi, one of the big 3 mobile providers
there). I'm sure everyone can connect the dots and see why a mobile
provider would sponsor a 1 minute film festival. :D

Anyway, there have been "copycat" one minute festivals appearing all over
the world, (e.g. Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain, Canada...) and Marcelo
is trying to bring them all under one roof.

See http://festivaldominuto.oi.com.br/site/mostra_noticias.php?id=5

Google provides a reasonable English translation for you non-Portuguese
speakers:

oi.com.br/site/mostra_noticias.php%3Fid%3D5&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=3&ct=re
sult&prev=/search%3Fq%3Done%2Bminute%2Bfestival%2Bmarcelo%2Bmasagao%26num%3D
30%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26sa%3DG

The official site of the festival is here:

http://festivaldominuto.oi.com.br/site/index.php

I spoke to one of my friends and business partners (a filmmaker) who is
working with Marcelo to operate and manage the festival. They don't use CC
licensing yet (because of some issues with CC Brazil) but are definitely
open to it for next year (the 2007 festival finished at the beginning of
Dec. 2007).

It would be great to see some entries from the mainland, HK or Taiwan in the
festival next year that submit their work using the localized CC licenses.
The festival is fairly well-known in Brazil and abroad and it could be some
good, free publicity that helps promote CC in China, HK or Taiwan.

Chunyan, if you have any interest in doing something like this (it seems on
par with your photo contest), let me know. I'll reach out to Marcelo and
arrange a way for the Chinese entries to be "fed" into the main festival in
Rio. Perhaps Tudou or http://56.com could be a sponsor on the China side...

Anyway, just my thoughts. Let me know if I can be of further help.

Have a nice weekend everyone,
-Henry Oh
