Janice, I'm with you! I think Kate and Binx in are a good place at the
novel's end. Sure, it's a product of his time, and some people have
taken offense to Binx's telling Kate what to do, but in the end, they
certify each other's existence in the way that movies once certified
Binx's world. They make the here and now present for each other, and
both are more settled and healthy in that here and now. Kate has grown
sleek, and Binx is no longer beset by ineffable yearnings and desires.
They are alive unlike the dead we see early in the novel and free of
malaise. I love the epilogue, too. Have you read any other Percy
novels?
