Thank you so much for your comments, Rhonda. There is one thing that I would appreciate getting more perspective on from experienced Percy readers.
When Percy wrote the epilogue, did he intend for us to be uplifted? Did he intend for us to feel good about Binx and Kate or did he mean it to be depressiing and hopeless?
It is easy to say why choose, which works often when a book is both funny and sad. But the end was very pleasing to me. I found it gorgeous. It really troubled me that so many had no hope for the couple. What did Percy want us to feel?
Does the answer depend, as was suggested, on whether the reader has belief or not? That seems logical to me. Because many modern readers would find it trivial to bring that up. I found the ending spiritual and poetic.
