Hello Lee,
It could well be that the
actinidia creates its own microclimate. I also thought that it could be
because the older vines have reserve buds. A young vine generally
loses most fruit buds to a frost, and the older vines seem to have reserve buds
that come out if the first ones are frozen. That happened again this
spring with our old "Annanasnaya" (A arguta) vine.
