| Lee, The only male arguta in my local area is mine, it is small and it does not bloom. I can assure you that Issai is self-fertile. I eat the fruits in good years. Perhaps there is some biological issue (soil?) that prevents some Issai from fruiting or perhaps there are different strains sold under the same name, some self-fertile and others much less so. But I am certain that mine produces fruits without a separate pollinator. I once had 5 or 6 different female varieties of arguta, but have since given up on them, as I do not have a lot of space and the male refuses to flower in its allotted space.
