One year, I threw an acorn squash gone bad onto the compost pile. The
squash was bought at the local grocery store. The compost pile did not heat
and the squash sprouted. I harvested 6 bushels of acorn squash from that
compost pile.
I have high hopes for the seeds I saved from a good cantelope this year.
I do sheet composting now instead of piles.
