I saw a difference in social philosophy. One would lead us in the
direction of theocracy. The other would lead us in the direction of
socialism. I prefer the latter, most especially in the case of health
care.
Each to his own of course, Gene, but I'd prefer the former. There is
nothing the world - even the Jihadism we are dealing with - there is nothing
in the world more evil than socialism. Socialism only seems like a good
thing when it's viewed as a cure for fascism (masquerading as capitalism)
much as people once took elemental mercury to cure syphilis. A social
philosophy of staunch self reliance is the only solution to both of them, a
social philosophy where people would be embarrassed to boast how weak and
parasitic they are and it would become a way of life for millions.
As to a theocracy, the threat of that is always present and more likely
under the present scheme of things true enough. But like that line in the
song, one can always say:
"Are you a Christian, child,
And I said 'Ma'am, I am tonight.."
A great number of religions have thrived by giving lip service to the
theocracy and continuing unabated for example, Santeria, Acumbe, and Voodoo.
But once socialism dissolves your rights to the property and capital
necessary for your independent life (which is what homesteading is about,
eh?), you are screwed forever.
