It could well be a bug. This is all very new and I'm trying to figure it out as I go. There are definitely some surprises here. I'll try to see if I can cook up a test case to see if this is really happening.
I haven't looked at XOM 1.0 to see if it has this problem also.
XOM 1.0 does not do any propagation of xml: attributes, so if it is a bug, it's only in the latest d release, and should be easily fixed.
