What happens if you cross a CueCat (those old free barcode scanners from
Radio
Shack) with a hi-fi turntable? Well, nothing. You just have a broke-ass
CueCat
and a useless relic. But if you're an MIT student from the Aesthetics +
Computation Group, you may instead have a fascinating thesis and a working
prototype of a device which optically reads paper 'records' containing
musical
sequencing or synthesis data, then pipes said data out to a computer through
MIDI or serial cables. Coupled with some custom software, maybe some Wi-Fi,
this could possibly make a handy product for the DJ-minded. If nothing else,
you have to respect this as king of all CueCat hacks.
