Here are my notes...my apologies about anything that's incomplete (or
names that are wrong).

Yes, and in 9.3? But Xen right now requires a modified kernel in the
guest OS and that means no Windows VMs. They are thinking that the Intel
VT and AMD Pacifica chips will start shipping in servers in about July
2006 and then you'll be able to use Xen to do virtualization without a
modified kernel. Incidentally VMWare is also going to incorporate these
hardware innovations into the ESX Server product. We are testing ESX 3.0
RC1 at this point and it works very well. We are being told that the 3.0
release product will come out in the next month. I believe that the
support for hardware-based virtualization within the VMWare framework will
be released as a minor upgrade to the ESX 3.0 product.
