That new Shopping album, the Official Body, is the bomb!

I think it was a good refresher, and I immediately pulled all the records off the shelf and gave them another thoughtful listen. I think I will also revisit Zoe Howe's book. It seemed like The Slits and Ari (solo) went through a million managers/collaborators (some of whom were on this list, if I recall correctly) so it didn't surprise me when the chips fell where they did for this project. Difficult fun? I was also reminded me of watching Ari perform at Ladyfest East in NYC (was that in the late 90s?) and how maybe she knew something was wrong even then. The Palmolive footage reminded me of the wonderful interview Mike Appelstein did with her in his dedicated fanzine and uncovered where she had landed. Overall, the fate of The Slits seems a bit bittersweet from watching that film. I'm eagerly anticipating reading Viv's new memoir that is about to come out.Since I'm posting here... I may as well mention how I've been listening to this family of post-punkyish bands - Trash Kit, Shopping, and Sacred Paws - all of whom I would recommend to the members of this list. I think they're on bandcamp and spotify.DinaOn Mon, May 14, 2018 at 2:54 PM, lsmith via TypicalGirls <typicalgirls AT lists.ibiblio.org > wrote:THANK YOU Dina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I watched it last night. Had no idea it was available. It was really fun to watch. I'm curious to hear what your or anyone else thought of it.One question, from what I gathered, there was a woman who said that Ari asked her to filming everything at the end. I'm curious to know why that filmmaker is not the person to make the movie.- Lani______________________________Hey everyone,Had a good time watching The Slits documentary on Hulu this weekend.
