...AND, OF COURSE, I'LL TRY TO KEEP IT AS "TYPICAL" AS POSSIBLE!  : )

Come by and say hello AND support the MANHATTAN music club scene. It's a rare and endangered thing, to be sure.

And definitely come out for Little Annie next week too. She used to go by the name Annie Anxiety, who I'm sure most of you know...perhaps from her amazing and seminal 7" for Crass Records in the early 80s. Also, the cellist (and my Tip the Velvet co-hort) Julia Kent will be playing there sometime soon too.

Typical regards,
Lydia

Hi, friends!

I just wanted to let you know that I am DJ'ing tonight at a very cool new weekly event my friend Paul has put together. I'm really looking forward to spinning vintage vinyl as well as newer stuff that I fancy and hope you can make it! Please try to bring some friends so that I can keep doing it! Thanks!!!!

Below is info about this week's show. Check out http://www.myspace.com/smallbeast for music samples from the artists who'll be playing. I'll be spinning between sets but mostly at around midnight until about 2 am, so come by even if you can't get there earlier. It's free! We're looking for people who like interesting music but who also like to shake it!

If you're coming by subway, just hop on the F or J/M/Z train to Delancey/Essex Street stop and walk less than 3 1/2 blocks east to the club at 168 Delancey between Clinton and Attorney, at the base of the Williamsburg bridge.

Thanks so much for your support!!! I look forward to seeing you!

Rockinest regards,
Lydia

P.S.: If, for some bizarre reason, you can't make it tonight, come by next week and we'll still love you!

2/12:
8:30  PAUL WALLFISCH
Botanica frontman/keyboardist Paul Wallfisch has taken over booking Thursdays upstairs at the Delancey, effectively creating one of the very few “must-see” nights anywhere in the New York  rock scene, especially considering that for the time being it’s free. Simply put, New York hasn’t had a consistent home for intelligent, challenging rock and rock-related music since Tonic  closed two and a half years ago. With this new series, playfully titled Small Beast, Wallfisch aims to change that. Typically, he starts the evening solo on piano, perhaps introducing a  guest or two and then bringing up the night’s featured artist or artists. ~LUCID CULTURE 1/23/09

  9:30  CHERIE LILY
CHERIE LILY, former lead singer and songwriter for New York City bands SPANK and FLuRT, recently sang on Lee Scratch Perry's Grammy nominated new album. She is performing an exciting new, high energy, one-of-a-kind solo project blending  house, acoustic rock, electronica, aerobic dance, and world music.  Inspiring and uplifting lyrics will keep you moving, grooving, and wanting more.
  10:15 BarmaLjova
Ljova was born in 1978 in Moscow, Russia, and moved to New York with his parents, composer Alexander Zhurbin and writer Irena Ginzburg, in 1990. He divides his time between performing as a violist in diverse groups ranging from his own LJOVA AND THE KONTRABAND, to string quartets, jazz combos and gypsy bands; studying and arranging music for the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, the Kronos Quartet, Matmos and Jay-Z; and composing original music for film, TV, theatre and the concert stage. For more information, upcoming shows and free downloads, visit his website at  www.Ljova.com
For this show, he's joined by Inna Barmash in a rare duo appearance featuring a magnificently romantic, klezmer & gypsy inflected songs in Russian and English. http://www.myspace.com/barmaljova

11:15 PIERRE DE GAILLANDE sings Georges Brassens
Pierre de Gaillande is a singer/songwriter/composer/musician born in Paris, living in Brooklyn. He plays, records, and tours with the bands The Snow (myspace.com/thesnowmusic) and Melomane (melomane.org). His newest project is the Georges Brassens Translation Project (melomane.org/brassens). He also makes music for films, television, and dance.
For Small Beast, I will be playing songs from the Brassens project. I will be singing Brassens’ songs in English. I have also grown a moustache for the occasion.
