Hey everyone,

The Shondes are looking for a new guitarist, so please forward the
below. If you find us our new guitarist, you will be our favorite
person EVER. Thanks!

----
Established Brooklyn-based, political rock band seeks passionate,
skilled guitarist.

About the band:
We are a 4-piece rock band: drums, bass, guitar, violin and female
lead vocals. We have a big, dramatic, emotional rock sound with a punk
energy to it, and special attention to melodic overlay and
instrumental counterpoint. Some musical reference points are
Sleater-Kinney, Rainer Maria and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The band has
been together for three years, during which we've self-released one
album to significant critical acclaim (CMJ, SPIN, Venus, etc.), been
on three national tours, played regular local and regional shows, and
are currently working on new material for our second album, which we
hope to record this summer. A well-established producer is interested
in working on it and we're in the process of looking for label
support. The band works with a national promotion company and has
opened for acts like Electrelane, Joe Lally (Fugazi), Erase Errata and
Lesbians on Ecstacy.

How We Work:
We're all committed to the band as our first priority and each
consider it to be our career. We seek out any and all opportunities to
build our fanbase and increase our visibility as an up and coming
indie rock band. This means that while sometimes we make good money
and play great venues to packed audiences, sometimes we don't make gas
money, and drive home at 4am and go to work in the morning. It's worth
it to us either way if we feel like it helps us achieve our bigger
goals. That said, we believe in working together to fairly share the
financial burden, and take care of each other as we deal with the
instability caused by "the rock 'n roll lifestyle".

In general, we have band practice in Brooklyn 2-3 times/week. We write
songs collaboratively, using several different methods. You should be
able to take initiative and bring your own songwriting ideas, as well
to take the lead from others. You'd also need to quickly master our
current performance repertoire (13 songs). You need to be ready to hit
the ground running because we want to record this summer and have a
ton of songwriting to do.

We are all committed to using music as a medium for
emotional/political expression, and radical politics are a big part of
our orientation as a band. Our anti-oppression politics (queer
anti-racist feminism) inform how we work together, make decisions and
write songs. We play benefits for organizations like Jews Against the
Occupation and the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, try to support and build
community with other political artists, and to be conscious of what
kinds of spaces we play (particularly with regard to gentrifying punk
and indie rock show spaces).

If you're still interested after reading all that -- here's what we're
looking for in you:

Enthusiasm about playing music and working hard
Ability to play both rhythm and lead-type parts. You need to provide a
lot of drive and work closely with the rhythm section to create solid
rock sections, as well as to write riffs and hooks and interplay with
the violin

Versatility and familiarity with producing various kinds of tone, to
achieve different moods
Comfort with collaborative songwriting
Willingness to practice 2-3 times per week
Commitment to developing your guitar skills

Ability and willingness to travel without financial security, both
for regular regional shows while based in New York, and for lengthy
inter/national touring
Commitment to using music as a medium for emotional and political expression
Comfortable in queer/trans community contexts
Dedication to working hard with us toward the overall success of the band
If you're interested, please email elijahoberman AT gmail.com with the
following:

introduce yourself, including guitar training (if any)/experience
playing solo or in band(s)
explain why you think this would be a good fit for you
if possible, send a link to myspace, youtube or somewhere else we can
hear/see you play
your availability to meet with us on a Thursday, Friday or Sunday evening
any questions you have
