An Earth-shaking Live Spectacle, Coming
to New
York!
With a LIVE Narrator! A Castrato!! Several Foley Artists!!! And an Orchestra!!!! May 9th - 15th at the
Village East Cinemas, director Guy MaddinÂ’s (THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD) latest feature film BRAND UPON THE
BRAIN! will be presented as an expansive live spectacle with an 11-piece
orchestra, a 5-piece Foley team, a Castrato and celebrity narrators, including
Crispin
Glover,
Justin Bond of Kiki and
Herb, Isabella
Rossellini, Lou
Reed,
Laurie
Anderson,
Tunde Adebimpe of
TV on the

others. Guy Maddin will appear in person to present the
film.
"Guy Maddin's latest
astonishment-- has ransacked film history and his own delirious imagination to
create a work like none other: a silently shot film about a man who, on
revisiting his childhood home, hurtles unto a past where orphan children, coy
lesbian lovers, and a mad scientist converge." -- Manohla Dargis, The New
York
Times
Whatever are
young "Guy Maddin's" parents really up to in their lighthouse home/orphanage on
a chilly remote island? Overbearing Mother (Gretchen Krich) tracks her son's
(Sullivan Brown) every move, calling him home over the "Aerophone" just as
something interesting is about to happen! And poor Sis (Maya Lawson) -- Mother
will never let her have any fun! The intrigue continues as deranged Mother,
hell-bent on restoring her youth, and sinister Scientist-Father (Todd Jefferson
Moore) engage in diabolical, secret experimentationÂ…
Equal parts
childhood reminiscence, Expressionist horror movie, teen detective serial and
Grand Guignol reverie, BRAND! has been earning unqualified raves during 9
months on the festival circuit, including Festival-best mentions at the 2006
Toronto Film Festival, 2006 New York Film Festival, and the 2007
Berlinale.
Following the live tour, BRAND! will open as a
regular film, with a pre-recorded soundtrack narrated by Isabella
Rossellini.
