Thanks for replying to my message, Sara! I have some links I'd like to share with you and anyone else here who'd like to know more about the women that were involved with Glam Rock back in the '70s.

The first link is to a very comprehensive site devoted to the genre called Glam Rock Bear, and they have a page devoted to what they call the Glam Girls:
 http://hometown.aol.co.uk/glamrockbear/page5.html

There is also a page on the '70s Invasion site (which covers many different genres from the decade, not just Glam) that is chock full of information about female Glam artists:
http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/70sinvasion/page4.html

There is also a book that came out recently which is an academic study of Glam Rock Performance, and has a chapter that focuses on Suzi Quatro and her affect on the Gender Politics of Glam. It's called Performing Glam Rock- Gender and Theatricality in Popular Music and it was written by Philip Auslander. Here's a link to a site where more info can be learned about that book:
http://www.press.umich.edu/titleDetailDesc.do?id=11477

One of my favorite authors, whom I have also been fortunate enough to interview, is Nina Antonia. She was the first person ever to write biographies about both Johnny Thunders and the New York Dolls, and in her most recent book, The Prettiest Star- Whatever Happened To Brett Smiley? she weaves her own tale of being a female Glam Rock fan during the rise of the genre with the biography of a lost Glam Rock star named Brett Smiley. I highly recommend the book not just to Glam Rock fans, but to anyone who likes to read about the female perspective of fandom, and can relate to how one's musical heroes can influence their own creativity. Here's a link to Nina's My Space site if you'd like to learn more about her: www.myspace.com/ninaantonia

And lastly, there were quite a few women whom played key roles in the Glam movement, whom have not entirely gotten their due because they were behind the scenes. For example, Marc Bolan's publicist Chelita Secunda is said to have been the first person ever to put glitter on his face before a career defining television performance on Top Of The Pops, and his wife at the time, June Bolan, has also been said to have played a part in shaping his image and career. Angie Bowie claims to have pulled the strings behind David Bowie's Glam Rock career, which can be read about in her autobiography, Backstage Passes: Life On The Wild Side With David Bowie.

Ok, well I think I've given more than my two cents about the topic. Thanks for reading my post!

Sincerely,
Bess Korey

Welcome to the group, Bess. I have all the Ace releases you mentioned, and I
can vouch for them all. I'm always interested in female glam stuff too. Even
though women like Suzi Quatro and Joan Jett/Runaways are inspirations, I'm
always interested in hearing from women in what was very much a
male-dominated subgenre of rock. If you're going to have boys dressed like
girls, why not cut out the middleman? Or woman?
