[I think this band are going to be huge - Joly]

With classically trained Russian Gabriel Olegavich and fiery
chanteuse Lola Olafisoye ("a cross between Grace Jones and
Eartha Kitt") up front, Spektrum produces a sound described by
one UK music writer as "as an unholy amalgam of righteous
political ire, razor-sharp production and dancefloor-shagging
beats".

With their electrifying live show — "the hottest in the UK —
Spektrum are credited with being the future of the flagging UK
dance scene — Tucker using live electronic drums, for example,
without incorporating samples or sequencer electronic music.

And they have earned reviews as glittering as their disco-punk
sensibilities with releases including debut album Enter The
Spektrum, singles Breaker, Freakbox, Kinda New, May Day and
Horny Pony, and their new album Fun At The Gymkhana Club.

TuneTribe writer Jim Butler says the Spektrum sound is
"decidedly more complex than any one modish conceit".

"Granted, the retro rhythmical revelations of the 1980s are
present but, as well as ESG and The Human League, the strains of
Colourbox and Adrian Sherwood are also noticeable," Butler said.
"The futuristic intent of Missy Elliott-shaped R&B and
infectious (that is, listenable) electronica has also detonated
a size 13 hole in their sound."

Actually, says Butler, why not forget about trying to put
Spektrum in a box.

"Don’t define them. Just listen, and dance, and think."
