:: Anyone know anything about this or
:: who Lena Zavaroni is/was?
Lena Zavaroni was a Scottish child star who had one
big UK hit in the early 70s that was a remake of the
old song Ma He's Making Eyes At Me. It wasn't very
good but she got an American record deal on Stax out
of it, making her one of the few white and decidedly
not soul acts on the label. It flopped and she had a
skeletal career for a few years but mostly on the back
of her earlier fame. She had some charm and talent,
but things eventually got rough for her, Zavaroni
developed anorexia nervosa from which she died a
couple of years ago.
Covering Dolly Mixture is weird but as comeback
attempts go, but for Zavaroni there is some sense to
the idea. I'm surprised I never heard of it before.
