Hello TCLocal observers,

Here's a notice that just went out to local sustainability groups.
Now that the new site is up, please use tclocal.org instead of
ibiblio.org/tcrp in future mentions of our project.

Hello Sustainable Tompkins,

As announced at last week's Sustainable Tompkins meeting, the
Tompkins County Relocalization Project has finally moved to its
new home at TCLocal.org (http://tclocal.org). Many thanks are due
to Authentrics for their donation of equipment, software, and
expertise.

TCLocal is the home of a collaborative research effort whose
eventual goal is the creation of a plan for relocalizing the
production and distribution of essential goods and services in
Tompkins County. More immediate goals include raising community
awareness about the coming end of cheap liquid fossil fuels,
commonly referred to as "peak oil," and the construction of a
database of locally oriented information available to anyone who
wants to use it.

If you check out the TCLocal Library by clicking on the "Library"
link from our home page at tclocal.org, you'll see a snapshot of
the work we've now started. This summer, we're focusing on
research in the areas assigned to our contributors, and as we find
each piece of data, we'll be putting it in an appropriate category
under "Resources" so that it can be available to both us and the
public at large. Later, as we start to write up our findings,
they will begin to appear as papers in the "Documents" section of
the Library.

Under "Resources," there's not much material yet except for a few
foundational studies on the general subject of peak oil (see under
General Resources / Peak Oil) and links to a couple of essential
scanned documents (see under General Resources / Data and General
Resources / Histories). We expect to start filling out the
resource section over the next few months. Similarly, there's no
material under "Documents" right now except links to our
introductory presentation and project outline, but if you continue
by clicking "Research Papers" and then go down further into the
categories and subcategories beyond, you will get an idea of the
topics we'll be looking into. You'll also see the names of people
who have so far signed up to look into each topic. If you've got
experience in research and writing and are willing to take on one
of the topics not yet spoken for, please contact the TCLocal
Editor (bosak AT ibiblio.org).

Now that we've got a repository for source data specific to
Tompkins County, we'd like to invite the community at large to
contribute key information (maps, studies, articles, histories,
etc.) that could be useful to people working on the project.
Please forward URLs of relevant online data and scans of printed
material (scans must be unencumbered by copyright) to the Editor
at the address above.
