I'm having trouble with gdm and my keyboard.

When I enable the gdm init script, and let it run imediately upon the
system entering runlevel 5, my keyboard does not work. On the
otherhand, if I disable the script, and login to the terminal first,
then run 'telinit gdm start' my keyboard does work.

One solution I found was to have modify the 'finalprog = ' to 'finalprog
= /usr/bin/gdm' line to /etc/inittab. But then I ran into problems with
gdm trying to restart each time I was trying to shut the system down.
Which in some cases would cause the system to hang, with X running, but
not much else, if anything, because everything else was being shutdown
in the background.
