This release adds many enhancements in the fields of Web services,
scripting, databases, pluggable annotations, and security, as well as
quality, compatibility, and stability. JConsole is now officially
supported. Java DB support has been added.

The Sun Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) Development Kit (JDK)
contains the essential compiler, tools, runtime libraries, and APIs

applications in the Java programming language. The J2SE Runtime
Environment (JRE) contains the runtime libraries and tools for
running applets and applications.
