This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.16.1' of 'GNU

The changes in this release are as follows:
This is a maintenance release. It fixes some potential security
problems and provides several new features, including a new option
--exclude-tag to specify "exclusion tag files", i.e. files whose
presence in a directory means that the directory should not be
archived. The --exclude-cache option excludes directories that
contain the CACHEDIR.TAG file from being archived . Support for
reading ustar type 'N' header logical records has been removed.

Project description:
GNU `tar' saves many files together into a single tape or disk
archive, and can restore individual files from the archive. It
includes multivolume support, the ability to archive sparse files,
automatic archive compression/decompression, remote archives and
special features that allow `tar' to be used for incremental and full
backups. It also includes `rmt', the remote tape server (the `mt' tape
drive control program is in GNU `cpio').
