not per se, mostly trying to get some sense in the madness. Mostly, it's doing the ones in the base spell set and kicking feedback on problems to the spell maintainers on the others. I've bashed all together maybe 3 or 4 from scratch, mostly it's find someone else's who has done it better than we currently do and tighten it up a bit.
Might want to look through the documentation on the Linux From Scratch
site. They have howtos on various popular programs, lots of example
scripts. The complete LFS-BOOTSCRIPTS file is there as well.
We're using a lot of their stuff already. =)
snipped; this has been discussed. Mostly discarded because the idea is to do the configure up front. HOWEVER! This is a great idea for a CONFIGURE file...
You mean the idea of doing this stuff after compile was discarded?
You can use the configure to do things after the compile. It's better to get the changes in up front
at the cast stage so that the caster can go on to other things after the preferences are made.
Chkconfig requires some changes to the way our init system is setup already. Another can of worms.Working on a version of chkconfig for the implementation, which could be used to do that. There is a bash level editor I was wasting time on; but it didn't do a couple of things and I couldn't get it to work right in any event, either before changes or after.
We don't already have a chkconfig spell, eh? Hmm. I'm having trouble
finding the source... fastcoder.net and buttsoft.net both appear to be
defunct.
These are good ideas, you wanna help out? The pay is lousy, but you get to work your own hours. Taking your idea there and making it into a CONFIGURE file would be great!
I'll pick at it this weekend.
Cool, as I have cracked my motherboard and am waiting for a replacement. (having to use the wifes pc while I get parts sucks, btw.)
