Summary: swap castfs for unionfs-fuse
Product: Sorcery
Version: Untargetted future release
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Component: Cast
AssignedTo: sm-sorcery-bugs AT lists.ibiblio.org
ReportedBy: dmlb2000 AT gmail.com

So unionfs-fuse is close to a drop in replacement for castfs. At the time of
writing castfs unionfs-fuse wasn't as mature as it is now. Also unionfs-fuse
has more features and encompasses the functionality that castfs has.

Sorcery would need to be modified to call unionfs-fuse with the proper command
line arguments instead of castfs. Also there may need to be some additional
clean up after umount'ing unionfs-fuse.

If this was implemented it would eliminate all the castfs associated bugs (and
probably start creating all new ones). However, there is active use of
unionfs-fuse through debian and other distros, so the userbase is larger and
more established than castfs (which I think is just us). This would mean
submitting bugs to unionfs-fuse guys instead of maintaining our own code which
is people intensive.

Just my thoughts.
