devel now features a resurrection script "resurrect". Among the features is
also resurrecting directly from a specified, but local, cache.

I'd put the net stuff into libsummon / summon like you said and make resurrect
call it if --from is passed and the argument isn't a local file.

It can't work well for normal resurrecting, since we have to look into the
cache and in order to do that, the cache must be directly accessible (to tar).
So unless you want to download all the spell caches from the remotes (making
this bug useless), the leapforward idea is not feasible.
