Summary: graceful update of archspecs?
Product: Sorcery
Version: Untargetted future release
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Cast
AssignedTo: sm-sorcery-bugs AT lists.ibiblio.org
ReportedBy: sobukus AT sourcemage.org
I am not sure how valid this bug is...
it is about updating the smgl-archspecs spell, which involves deletion of the
old archspecs and then running INSTALL to place the new ones in.
That way, at the beginning of INSTALL, there is no archspec file and on a
system using devel sorcery (20070108) with or without castfs this results in
Preparing to install smgl-archspecs
Dispelled spell: smgl-archspecs
Cannot find arch spec for pentium-m!
And the list of files from cp -v being all-red then.
Still, when creating the cache tarball, this config catches up again and
appends the proper host:
Creating cache
file /var/cache/sorcery/smgl-archspecs-0.7.2-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.bz2
Now on a different box, I have test sorcery 1.13.7-rc2 ... there I don't get
that "cannot find arch spec" and the cache file
/var/cache/sorcery/smgl-archspecs-0.7.2-alphaev67-unknown-linux-gnu.tar.bz2
is also OK.
But there is a
/var/cache/sorcery/smgl-archspecs-0.7.2-.tar.bz2
that was created on first cast from 0.7.0 -> 0.7.2 with an older test sorcery
(well, I didn't update yesterday...).
I upgraded sorcery just after that to check again and then on cast -c the
correct cache tarball was created. So I really don't know if it happens only
on
update or if the new sorcery just fixed it.
My question is: Is the different behaviour by accident or planned? Which
handling is better - the one without error message or the one that always
creates the correct cache tarball...?
Is there any special handling in sorcery that is supposed to catch the case
of
casting smgl-archspecs? It obviously would be a good idea to store the
currently used archspec file/info when dispelling archspecs for installing
the
new version.
