Summary: sorcery (cast) needs to honor environment variables or
get switches for INSTALL_ROOT
Product: Sorcery
Version: Untargetted future release
Platform: All
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: Cast
AssignedTo: sm-sorcery-bugs AT lists.ibiblio.org
ReportedBy: dgoller AT satx.rr.com

To be able to simply the creation of clean chroot tarballs, sorcery needs to
allow cast to be invoked with 'INSTALL_ROOT=/some/place cast $something' or
with
'cast --install_root=/some/place $something'
This will allow easy creation of clean tarball (from within a script) that
will
be used to be included on the install media as seed for the new system and
used
as base for further release media build steps.
Setting INSTALL_ROOT in the sorcery of the system used for building release
media is not enough.
It needs to be possible that it reads the value from either the environment or
from the command line.
Ideally this allows a script to create the tarball, package it, and peruse it
for further steps.
No manual alteration of the system required to be able to build said tarballs.
